"Sisters of Excellence" Represents Empowerment for All

New York, New York

On Saturday, March 26th, 2016 the empowering group "Sisters of Excellence" hosted their networking gala in Long Island, New York. CaribbeanNation Magazine received an invitation to highlight the event by Founder Ms. Cindy Brown, and we enthusiastically accepted the invite. The gala was hosted in "Sips" which is a trendy yet cozy cafe and lounge and the guests made themselves quite comfortable and relaxed upon arrival. More so, the meet and greet portion of the event was very friendly and welcoming, and the host of the evening Mrs. Alicia Lovell - La-Foucade did a great job in keeping the guests entertained with her witty and vibrant personality. The program began promptly at 4:00 p.m. with genuine speech contributions by outstanding women from the New York area. There-after, Ms. Brown performed a beautiful monologue piece which captivated the entire audience. The poem's  strong contents spoke about women and the strength they have both mentally and emotionally to work hard towards success while they accomplish abundantly as a universal sisterhood.

The afternoon progressed with other articulate and eloquent speakers such as Evangelist Paula Holder, M.B.A. who spoke about health and wealth. She also touched on managing money and finance and explained the importance of being able to live comfortable before and after retirement. Another great contributor was Mr. Clive Williams who is the publisher and chairman of "Where itz At Magazine". Mr. Williams's impact was powerful and encouraging throughout his entire presentation which injected inspiration into every individual seated in the gala. He discussed empowerment from a man's perspective and reflected on his childhood in Jamaica and the transition that he had experience in the United States that molded him into being a success story not just for himself, but other generations who followed his footsteps. Supreme Court Justice Debra A. Dowling also did a phenomenal job by elaborating on her background, her career and the mishaps that she had to deal with as a woman in the justice system, as well as her fight for young people to be educated and fruitful in our society.

At this juncture, the audience was thirsty for more knowledge and the man that quenched our thirst was none other than Mr. Michael Francis of "Why Not Me?", a company focused on guiding and encouraging people to be entrepreneurs. Mr. Francis mentioned how critical it is for young people to balance their intelligence in the direction of becoming business owners and the next generation of trendsetters for success overall. Mrs. Glenise Gomez - Phillip of "Skin Ethiks" introduced us to her skin care products and reminded us all that beauty exhumes from inside and then transforms onto our outer layers. Her beauty products are all natural and she pioneered to create a skin care line that would uplift mind and spirit, construct radiant skin quality, and be affordable for both men and women everywhere. Chef/Author Ava Bastien of "Ava's Lifeline" spoke about her delicious and inviting recipes which she lovingly makes. Ms. Bastien reminded us that eating and maintaining a healthy diet is indeed a mandatory step that people should practice on a daily basis.

She assured us that her dishes are prepared with fresh, tasty ingredients, packed with vitamins, minerals and nutrients that our bodies need and crave whole-heartedly. Then she dramatically made us recite an affirmation to inspire us to be better at what we do and reminded us to never give up. It was now 6:45 p.m. and the event was coming to an end, but not until Ms. Cindy Brown who was fully responsible for the gala dictated her life stories, inspirations and other testimonies for our supportive ears. Her delivery gravitated many, made others a bit teary eyed while some of us appeared enthused by her bravery and out-spoken attributes. Ms. Brown's mission primarily deals with indulging women of all different backgrounds and ethnicity under the umbrella of excellence. Her campaign is steered to reinvent hope, strength, unity, support, and determination in which women can always be excellent at what they do, despite their choices and lifelong decisions that entail empowerment for all.

In closing, the experience for me as a CaribbeaNation representative at the gala was genuinely rejuvenating and inspirational. Being among so many great men and women was indeed a pleasure and I enjoyed every moment of it all. It was a privilege to have associated with so many Black Caribbean and American people all together at once, sharing ideas, passion, talent and love was certainly golden for me. In its entirety the event began and ended gracefully, it flourished with a nice blend of intelligence and intellect, and the faces in the room glowed with warmth and anticipation for the next "Sisters of Excellence" in 2017. On behalf of the CaribbeanNation Magazine team, and QMZradio 98.9 FM, we say thank you for considering us to be a part of such a grand affair and we wish you all longitudinal opportunities with your ambitions as women of excellence.
